Karma Guen

Almost 900 years ago the first consciously reborn Yogi of Tibet renowned as the “Knower of the Three Times” the great Karmapa Dusum Khyenpa established his main seat of activity in a remote place in the Kham region near Chamdo in Tibet and gave it the name Karma Guen. Its beauty and power became famous for centuries and are still known today.

With each incarnation the activity of this King of Yogis has shown countless beings their path to enlightenment.

The vision and blessing of the great 16th Karmapa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje gave birth to a place that today stands as his boundless activity rooted in the western world.

As he predicted, Karma Guen in the Andalusian Mountains is now the place of power in which beings meet the timeless wisdom of Buddha’s teachings in the uninterrupted oral transmission of the Karma Kagyu Lineage being one of its over 900 Buddhist Centers worldwide.

Through the immense generosity and devotion of Dorrit and Pedro Gomez to their teachers, Karma Guen was established by Lama Ole Nydahl and his wife Hannah under the spiritual guidance of H.H. the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Trinlay Thaye Dorje.

Here nowadays beings come together to meet the Masters of the Lineage, meditate, learn, share experiences and actively participate in the center activities in a non-monastic style fitted to our modern contemporary culture.

Philosophical and linguistic academic studies and the translation of important Buddhist texts aim to broaden and deepen the understanding of the heritage of the teachings of the Buddha and those of great Buddhist Masters and ensure the preservation of its link to their roots. Being one of the most extensive Buddhist libraries in the west, Karma Guen contains many rare and important texts. Amazing frescoes in the main meditation hall painted in the most rigorous Karma Gadri art style by the master Dawa Lhadripa are absolutely unique in the Western World.

Future plans also include facilities for research on meditation and neuroscience, Tibetan Medicine, a Buddhist Cementry, a museum for Buddhist Art and an Art School.

We invite you to take a look at our regular program and activities and allow yourself the chance to meet timeless values and make them part of your own life.
