Before finding buddhism Pedro and Dorrit Gomez bought village Aldea Alta. After meeting their first teachers Lama Ole and Hannah Nydahl the idea of creating Karma Guen was born. Togeter with friends from around the world Karma Guen has been made into the place we know today.
Karma Guen is now owned by the spanish public registered charity “Fundación Karma Guen Karma Kagyu Camino del Diamante” which was created in 2011. Its board consist of 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje, Lama Ole Nydahl, a representative of the German Diamond Way Stiftung, Pedro & Dorrit Gomez. This was done to make sure that the activity of our teachers and lineage will continue for many future lifetimes.
The daily running of the place is managed and organised by the residents and teams of Karma Guen, who are responsible for each of their respective areas of work. The different teams manage their budgets, which is at the end of the year subject to an external audit and financial reporting. Everything is done on a voluntary basis and is coordinated through weekly meetings.
